The Sharks overcame a half-time deficit to beat Edinburgh 36-30 and become the first South African team to reach the Challenge Cup semi-finals on Saturday.
Edinburgh started brightly and put pressure on the Sharks with some clever kick-offs.
However, they were met by a staunch defense from the Sharks, who attacked the host 22 team's top lead early on at 6-0, scoring three points twice.
Edinburgh starts early
Sharks flyhalf Siya Mask inexplicably missed a head-on kick during Edinburgh's Ben Healy's penalty goal.
The Sharks showed they could launch an attack from almost anywhere on the park, with Lukhanyo Am's superb try set up by Makazole Mapimpi, nearly replicating Mapimpi's try in the 2019 Rugby World Cup final.
The Sharks' second goal, scored by James Venter with some great hands, somehow involved all 15 players.
However, Edinburgh hit back with a try from Pierre Schoeman after Eben Ezebeth was given a yellow for booking the Sharks after a persistent foul on the line.
The Scottish team took the lead as time expired in the first half, with Healy converting his third penalty to make it 14-16 at half-time.
Sharks boss second half
The Sharks got off to a dominant start in the second half, playing some smart rugby to earn points despite looking extremely dangerous in possession.
Musk put the Sharks ahead eight minutes into the second half and gave them a four-point lead just three minutes later.
Bongi Mbonambi's try was the decisive moment and the Sharks took control of the game from there.
The Sharks may feel they should have finished better, but Masuku kicked well in the second half and followed up Mbonambi's try with two further penalty goals. In the 70th minute, the Sharks scored 19 unanswered points in the second half and the game looked safe with a 36-16 lead.
Hamish Watson's try in the 74th minute made things interesting, but by the time Dave Cherry crossed at the end of the maul after some jeers, Edinburgh were already trailing.
Healy's conversion of this try took Edinburgh to a respectable 30 points, but the Sharks won the match and so it was best not to risk too much to prevent their opponents from getting a mere repechage score. It will be forgiven.
Musk was named man of the match, but the Sharks had plenty of heroes. Werner Koch's tenacious determination was on display once again. Ox Nche and Vincent Koch promoted an overwhelming scrum.
The Sharks still look like a team likely to sabotage themselves with errors, but they're finding their arrogance.
