The news that Springbok star Eben Ezebeth will be sidelined after undergoing knee surgery was a blow to Sharks fans.

Sharks head coach John Plumtree acknowledged the injury setback, which comes at a critical time for the side, who are fighting near the bottom of the United Rugby Championship table.
Injury setback for Etzebeth and the Sharks
Ezebeth's absence poses a challenge for the Sharks, who face tough games including a crucial derby against the Stormers. However, good news is on the horizon as Bongi Mbonambi approaches his return from injury.

“I feel like I was handicapped because it was a long season and I had a lot of injuries,” Plumtree said. “Eben Ezebeth has started playing, but he has currently undergone knee surgery so it will be a few weeks before he returns.”
Balancing the demands of the Springboks
In addition to Ezebeth's injury, Plumtree also has to overcome the mandatory rest period for South African players. He was reluctant to reveal which Springboks will be absent, but captain Lukhanyo Am is expected to be in action this weekend.

“It's not ideal, but we understand the importance of it,” Plumtree explained. “These boys have played Northern Hemisphere rugby and Southern Hemisphere rugby for a long season. Isn't this crazy?”
Ezebeth's blow is softened by Stormer's possible rest
The Sharks will host a 'Sharksfest' to build an exciting atmosphere during their crucial match against the Stormers.

There is hope for the home side as the Stormers could rest Springbok stars such as Deon Fourie, Manny Livbok and Damian Willemse.
