India's growing influence at Changi Airport
Official data from Changi Airport Group (CAG) has revealed a significant milestone as India secured the fifth position among the top five largest passenger markets at Singapore's Changi Airport. The development, announced in January, underlines India's growing prominence in aviation despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2023, Indonesia took the top spot in Changi Airport's passenger market, followed by Malaysia, Australia and Thailand.
Before the start of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic in 2019, Changi Airport had high passenger movement, with 68.3 million passengers registered. The 2023 traffic surge is an 83% increase from 2022 and reflects resilience amid global recovery efforts.
Throughout 2023, there were approximately 328,000 flights to and from Changi Airport, a slight decrease from the pre-pandemic level of 382,000 flights in 2019.
Remarkable progress was made in the final quarter of 2023, with 16.1 million passenger movements recorded, more than 90% of pre-pandemic levels. December emerged as the busiest month, with 5.8 million passengers using the airport, representing 91 percent of traffic in December 2019.
