England captain Jamie George says Saturday's Six Nations match against Scotland will be “special” following the death of his mother.
Hooker's mother Jane passed away last week, but George says he decided to play because “that's what she wanted me to do.”
“We’re very lucky to have such great people here,” he said. Rugby Union Daily.
“It's going to be special because the rest of my family will be in the stands. My parents and my mom never missed a game.”
Saracens hooker, 33, was named England captain ahead of the Six Nations following Owen Farrell's decision to resign.
“It was important for me and my family to get back to camp and give it my all,” George added.
“Many of the highlights of her life have been watching me play rugby for England and it will be great to be able to do that again on Saturday.
“My mum was probably the biggest England rugby fan ever, so I’m really happy that she followed me around the world and brought me so much happiness.
“She loved the players and loved watching me play. I want to continue to make her proud.”
George paid tribute to the support of England's staff and team-mates.
“If I can take any confidence from the last nine or 10 days, if we can take care of people like the players have taken care of me, then that's a sign of a really positive team. That is,” he added.
“Steve and the doctors here and the boys too gave me time and space when I needed it and contacted me almost every day to check on me. They were amazing. .”
