The Miss South Africa Association has been asked to step up security around Miss SA finalist Chidinma Vanessa Adesina.
Chidinma has been attacked on social media and faces cyberbullying and hatred for taking part in the Miss South Africa pageant.
Despite being born in South Africa, the finalist is of Nigerian descent, which sparked backlash, with many people calling for her to be disqualified from the competition.
On Twitter, several concerned people called on Miss SA organisers to protect the young model.
“Dear Missyou need to tighten security around your contestant Chidimma. You must be well aware that the xenophobia in South Africa is never just verbal.“Please don't let her down. There is too much evil in this place,” wrote a Twitter user.
Another person narrated how Lucky Dube was killed over a similar issue.
“It recently emerged that Lucky Dube, a South African, was killed because his killers thought he was Nigerian,” the tweet read.

I said what needed to be said. 🙏🏽 It is the organization's role to protect this woman from this harassment. Given South Africa's femicide rate, this is truly horrifying. Anyone who says I'm exaggerating clearly doesn't know their own countrymen. 💔 I'll mute you. 👍🏽
