Somizi Mhlongo gives his opinion on the ongoing controversy surrounding Miss South Africa 2024.
The group has come under fire many times over the past few months for its support for Chidinma Adesina, whose father is Nigerian.
Media personalities have taken up the issue, comparing Chidinma’s case to that of South African-born member of parliament Natasha Mazzone.
Natasha's parents are from Britain and Italy, and she is recognised by the Italian government and is a successful South African politician.
“Apart from one being black and the other being white, what is the difference between their stories and why is the energy different? A simple question,” Som captioned her social media post.
Below are some of the responses in the comments:
“Miss South Africa is a representation. A representation of heritage, culture and tradition. Miss South Africa can be seen as a symbol of the nation. Though she was born here, her heritage and culture do not assimilate with ours.”
“Not that I have a problem with her, but I checked her profile and there are two other flags, not the South African flag. Also, I'm asking my friends, when she wins, will she go to Nigeria to celebrate? I went to EC when Zozo won and Limpopo when Shudu won. So Rona Uzoyafi? I don't have a father, please don't come for me, I'm just asking.”
