The company said it plans to begin reducing its workforce by approximately 8% worldwide.
“The PlayStation community means everything to us, so we felt it was important to update you on this difficult day for our company. “We have made the very difficult decision to announce plans to begin reducing our workforce by approximately 8%, or approximately 900 people, worldwide,” said Jim Ryan, President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment. It said its employees around the world, including studios, were affected.
“They are incredibly talented people who have contributed to our success, and we are extremely grateful for their contributions.
“However, the industry is changing significantly and we need to prepare our businesses for the future.
“We need to meet the expectations of developers and gamers and continue to drive future technology in gaming, so we are taking a step back to ensure we are ready to continue providing the best gaming experience to our community. Did.”
The company said employees in all SIE regions (Americas, EMEA, Japan and APAC) are affected.
It added that multiple PlayStation Studios are affected.
PlayStation Studios' London studio will be permanently closed.
Firesprite Studio does the reduction.
“This is not easy and we know the impact it has on wellbeing. Affected employees will receive support, including severance pay. This is not a sign of any lack of strength in our company, our brand or our industry,” Ryan said.
“Our goal is to remain agile and adaptable, and remain focused on delivering the best gaming experience possible now and in the future.”
