Local celebrities are using their talent and fame to launch lucrative businesses.
The biggest names in South Africa's entertainment world have realized that they need to do more than one thing to survive in a predatory industry. It doesn't matter if it's a side job.
Here are celebrity bosses who are establishing their careers.
DJ Jinful
venture business: ERA by DJ Zinhle, Hughes Academy
DJ Zinhle can charge up to R70,000 for a single gig, but that hasn't stopped her from expanding her brand. Her watch and accessories brand ERA By DJ Zinhle is a fan favorite. She is also a supporter of Fuse Academy, South Africa's first DJ academy specifically aimed at women. Her hard work so far is paying off, as she recently told CliffCentral that she doesn't have any debts and she even pays her TV bill and travel expenses on time.
DJ sub
venture business: Mofaya
Another DJ building an empire is Sbusiso Leope, aka DJ S'bu. The entrepreneur's energy drink Mofaya may have gotten him fired from Metro FM, but he has big plans for the product. Mr S'bu believes his company's energy drinks have huge potential and plans to break into the R1-billion industry. He is also a philanthropist and his Leope Education Foundation does great work for young South Africans.
Dineo Ranaka
venture business: Muv-Luv DR
Television personality and reality star Dineo Ranaka has a fashion label called Luv DR. Although the brand has been around for more than five years, it gained popularity around 2013. The ready-to-wear line is available for both men and women.

venture business: Bonang Matheba Entertainment, Bonang for Destruction, Baby Star
They don't just call her Queen B. Everything Bonang Matheba touches turns to gold. The television personality is reportedly worth more than R6 million. She serves as a brand ambassador for several popular brands including the international cosmetics company Revlon.
