A South African woman named Primrose Vale has died in Nigeria after a short illness.
A young woman who traveled to Nigeria to celebrate her birthday has died after contracting malaria, according to reports.
The 29-year-old is the mother of a 10-year-old boy, according to his family. She lived in Cape Town for work reasons.
“She was planning to celebrate her birthday with friends,” said Orlando Vail, the deceased's father.
He said Rose informed him that they had landed safely. However, on December 28, her friend in Cape Town contacted her family to inform them of her death.
The family is seeking financial assistance to return their daughter's body to South Africa.
The estimated cost from a funeral home in Nigeria amounts to R90,000.
Rose's father emphasized that both he and Rose's mother are pensioners and cannot afford to pay the amount. He is pleading for assistance in transporting the body home for burial.
Rose's brother Valit Weil said he has contacted the embassy and is still waiting for a response.
He said he needed to fly to Nigeria for logistics.
