Leeds United's Northern Ireland midfielder Stuart Dallas has said he has considered a career in coaching or management.
He said he would discuss his post-playing career with Leeds but was “excited about what the future holds”.
“These things happen in life, and you have to adapt to them,” Dallas said.
Speaking during the draw for the 2024 European Under-19 Championship, in which hosts Northern Ireland face Norway, Italy and Ukraine, Dallas told BBC Sport NI it had been an “emotional few weeks” since announcing his retirement. Ta.
“It's a relief now that we have it and it's something we've known for weeks,” he added.
“I thought retirement would come at some point, but it came a little sooner than I expected.
“I am fortunate to have had the career I have had and am looking forward to the future.”
“A major turning point”
Asked if he would consider going into coaching or management now that he's retired, Dallas admitted: “I've thought about it.”
“Going from being a player to being a manager or a coach is a big transition,” he added.
“For now, I want to take some time this summer and enjoy time with my family, because having to deal with the setbacks I've had over the past few years has been very difficult for them. Because it was a road.
“I want to enjoy the summer with them and I want to take some time off and switch off completely. There are some things I need to discuss with the club about what direction I want to take. When it comes, it will happen.” ”
Leeds currently sit third in the Championship with three games in hand, two points behind leaders Ipswich Town.
Dallas says he is focused on doing his best for his team-mates as they aim for an immediate return to the Premier League.
“Right now I'm just thinking about finishing the season,” added Dallas, who spent nine years at Elland Road.
“Nothing has changed for me. I'm still going to rehab every day and being part of the team and kicking every ball like I always do.”
“They've been a big part of my life and career. It's important for me to be as positive as possible on the field and help the players if I can, but I'm confident in the group of players and managers that we can do it.” That's where we were heading at the beginning of the year. ”
