Former Scotland rugby captain Stuart Hogg is reportedly facing arrest over an incident at his ex-wife's house. The arrest comes shortly after Hogg was seen enjoying Scotland's Six Nations victory over England with his celebrity friends.
Hogg's charges and arrest
Mr Hogg, who abruptly retired from rugby ahead of the 2023 World Cup, is reportedly charged with causing fear and alarm through intimidation and abusive behavior. The alleged incident took place on Sunday night, February 25, at his ex-wife's home in Hawick, Roxburghshire.
Celebs step out hours before arrest
Earlier in the day, Hogg was photographed at the Six Nations match between Scotland and England at Gus Murrayfield Stadium in Scotland.
He shared an image on social media alongside actor Martin Compston and chef Greg Wallace, writing: “What a day. What a result. A great performance by the Scottish players. Legends in the Players Lounge.'' I really enjoyed being in it.”
Arrest and upcoming court appearance
Mr Hogg was detained at Hawick Police Station and later released. However, he is expected to appear in court in the near future and a report will be submitted to the prosecutor's office.
A police spokesperson said: “A 31-year-old man has been arrested and charged. He has been released on a promise to appeal at Jedburgh Sheriff Court at a later date.”
Background: Family tension
This is not the first time police have intervened in Hogg's private life. Earlier this year, police were reportedly called to his brother's home on New Year's Day for a family dispute.
The former rugby star divorced his wife Gillian last year and is now dating jockey and Sky Sports presenter Leonna Mayer. The couple had four children.
Hogg's Rugby Legacy
Hogg's sudden retirement from rugby came as a shock, with some reports saying his decision was to spend more time with his family. He was awarded an MBE in the King's New Year Honors List for his contribution to the sport, including his record-breaking number of tries and over 100 caps.
