Sudan's military has posted a video online showing soldiers inside its headquarters in the city of Omdurman.
Sudan's military has seized control of the country's national radio and television headquarters from the rival militia Rapid Support Forces (RSF), it said in a statement.
The military posted a video online on Tuesday showing soldiers inside its headquarters in Omdurman, a city across the Nile from Khartoum that forms part of Sudan's regional capital. The military has claimed recent gains after a series of military losses.
RSF had no immediate comment.
The conflict erupted in mid-April 2023 amid tensions over plans for a transition to civilian rule.
In 2021, rival factions staged a coup d'état, derailing the previous transition to power after long-time leader Omar al-Bashir was overthrown in 2019.
Al Jazeera's Hiba Morgan, reporting from Khartoum, said the military's takeover of media headquarters follows weeks of victories over the RSF.
“Following an overnight battle between the RSF and Sudanese forces, the military was able to regain control of the base following a victory here in the city of Omdurman,” Morgan said.
“This shows that the military has made steady advances and regained territory from the RSF over the past few weeks, and is also retaking territory from the RSF in the city of Omdurman and some other areas of the capital.”
Sudan's civil war has destroyed the capital, triggered a wave of ethnically motivated killings in western Darfur, and triggered the world's largest displacement crisis.
The United Nations has called for a ceasefire during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, but the military has refused to suspend fighting against the RSF unless the militias vacate civilian facilities, including the capital Khartoum.
“Therefore, fighting continues here in the capital Khartoum,” Morgan said. “In the past few hours, you could see some plumes of smoke in different parts of the capital and you could also hear the sounds of shelling.”
