Dali Tambo, the son of former African National Congress (ANC) president Oliver Tambo, has paid tribute to his late father and appealed to his party to ensure a decisive victory in the next election.
Mr Tambo spoke at a wreath-laying ceremony in honor of Oliver Tambo in Ekurhuleni on Wednesday.
The event was hosted by the Gauteng ANC, with Provincial Chairman Panyaza Lesufi delivering the keynote address. Mr Tambo said the ANC should aim for at least 61% in the May 29 poll to ensure a majority.
“I want the ANC to make us proud, to make my father, my ancestors, my forefathers proud. Make South Africans proud and win this election by a landslide. Let's aim for 61%, not even 51%, because no other political organization has given this country what the ANC has given it for 110 years. ”
ANC NEC member Mzwandile Masina, who also attended the event, said he was confident his party would win Gauteng in the next election.
Some analysts consider Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape to be the main political battleground states for the election.
“Look, victory is certain. We are working hard all over the country. Dear our volunteers, we are just not dependent on President Cyril Ramaphosa. Although he is the face of our campaign, Every member of the National Executive Committee, every local organization, every local branch is an integral part of this movement, because we are everywhere and we are like the Holy Spirit. I am confident that the ANC will win.”
