A taxi boss and two bodyguards were shot dead in a drive-by shooting in Delmas, Mpumalanga on Saturday evening.
Police said in a statement that the shooting happened on Lakwena Street in Bottlelen at around 2:30 p.m.
Police have not released the identities of the deceased, but said the taxi boss was a 34-year-old man and that the other two men who died were bodyguards.
Police spokesperson Colonel Donald Mdluli said the taxi boss was driving his car, accompanied by his bodyguards in another car, when he was accosted by the attackers from the opposite direction.
“It is also said that the suspects opened fire on two vehicles, fatally wounding the man and his bodyguard,” Mdluli said.
A woman was also injured during the shooting. She was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Police said the motive for the shooting was not yet established, but a team of investigators had been dispatched by Mpumalanga Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Semakarene Daphne Manamela to arrest the perpetrators.
Manamela also “strongly condemned the incident,” Mdluli said.
