- Ten of the 12 defendants at the University of Fort Hare have been released on bail of R50,000 each.
- They are accused of defrauding the university of R171 million.
- The state plans to oppose bail for the two defendants on Friday.
The Dimbaza Magistrates' Court in the Eastern Cape on Thursday afternoon granted bail of R50,000 each to 10 of the 12 defendants in the University of Fort Hare fraud and corruption case.
Two of the suspects, Terence Joubert of Tarrek Security Solutions and Anwar Khan of the Defense Group, will be held until Friday, when the state is expected to oppose their bail applications.
Khan is a former bodyguard of murdered rapper AKA.
Bail was granted to Dr. Paul Tradi. his wife Lucrecia Davids; Anna Smith. Mbulelo Ginkana. Luis Mawila. Zuko Mabombo. Mr Thamsanqa Sonjica, his service provider Mr Bradley Conradie, Mr Craig Retief and Mr Nthabiseng Makhaba.
Judge Nkosinathi Mujekula set bail conditions for the defendant to hand over his passport to investigators and report to the nearest police station every Wednesday.
The suspects were among 14 people arrested over the Easter weekend. They are accused of defrauding the university of R171 million.
Two of them, Sarah Berger and Gosain Wayne van Gaal, were released last week on bail of R50,000 each.
Defendant number one, Isaac Pratges, gave up his bid for bail last week.
The defendant is scheduled to appear in court again on May 9th.
