Gauteng Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Solly Msimanga said the deadlock in negotiations between his party and the African National Congress (ANC) to form a provincial unity government would have a negative impact on service delivery in the province.
The two parties remain at odds and have yet to agree on the composition of their executive committee.
The DA said the ANC was insisting on giving it three ministerial seats in the Gauteng provincial government and retaining the remaining seven seats, including the premier position.
This is said to be in breach of the proportionality clause.
Msimanga expressed concern over the delay in forming the state government.
“It's unfortunate that this is stalling decision-making and preventing government plans from moving forward. We have safety and security issues in Gauteng, crumbling infrastructure issues, issues with schools, issues with hospitals and clinics and these are things that we are very concerned about. Without political leadership to guide government plans, it will affect government's ability to provide services to its people,” he said.
