Mongezi Mahlangu, known professionally as Tor As Moh, released a statement in 2023 about comments he made about black women.
The comedian announced his divorce from his wife Mome Malungu and said he would never date a black woman again.
However, the couple got back together again after being separated for several months.
In a statement released, Tolu said he regrets his comments and apologized.
“I deeply regret acknowledging the hurtful and confusing comments made during this period, including my alleged disdain for black women. Such comments do not reflect my beliefs or values. I want to make it clear that the person who made those statements was not the person I knew myself to be, but rather a manifestation of the illness and disorientation I was in.” he said.
“This statement asks for understanding and asks for forgiveness. I recognize that my actions, influenced by mental health issues and trauma, have caused significant pain and disappointment. For this, I am truly sorry. My mission is to heal and make amends to those I have wronged. I am dedicated to regaining the trust and respect of my community, but… I recognize that this will take time and require a clear change on my part.
“Finally, I urge the public to be self-aware, confront their mental health issues and never give up. Treat yourself with kindness and understand the impact of deceptive behavior and the pain of others. Be wary of deceptive behavior because you will never fully understand the depth. Therapy, prayer, and the support of my immediate family saved me from self-destruction. I will forever be grateful for the gift of life that I have been given.”
