Ultimate Braai Master Live is seeking organizations, schools and community groups to participate in an event at Montecasino to raise funds.
South Africans are known for their good nature and quarrelsome nature. The Ultimate Braai Master Live (UBMLive) event combines the two and encourages people to braai for a good cause.
“The fundraising element is unique in that it provides schools, clubs, charities, etc. the opportunity to sell tickets to the community at the same price we sell them, but those schools, etc. We'll give you a discount on your purchase,''' said cartoonist and braai master Chris Forrest. The Citizen.
Ultimate Braai Master Live is looking for organizations, schools and community groups to participate in Ultimate Braai Master Live 2024 at Montecasino from October 25th to 27th to raise money while having fun.
The event was discovered by the comedian and his wife Tabitha Hoyforest.
“This way, we don't have to add additional fees to the ticket price to drive up the ticket price. We actually absorb the 20% discount we're giving to schools, and they can charge that back to their ticket sales.” said Mr. Forest.
This year alone we have already received support from schools and individuals who want to raise money for a variety of projects. They pay R120 per ticket, sell tickets for R150 and keep that extra 20% (R30).
“We also found that the community liked this method of fundraising. It wasn’t just donating to another cause, it was a way for buyers to support a charity and do something fun at the same time. ,” he said.

The first UBMLive fundraiser was held at the same venue last year, with several primary schools and several children's homes taking up the offer.
“This year, we have expanded even further and reached out to more schools and organizations that we think would benefit from this type of fundraising,” Hoyforest asserted.
She said that in 2023, UBMLive had just over 4,000 participants. “We want to double that, if not more,” Hoyforest said.
“Chris and I always support various charities and are also very active in fundraising for our children's schools. However, we are committed to supporting everyone who contacts us. It turned out to be difficult,” Hoy-Forest said of the impetus for the fundraiser.
“We find that by offering this type of fundraising avenue, we can engage more organizations that need help but don’t know how to get started. It's a super easy way to earn some much-needed income with a lot of effort.”
“Not only are you getting the best braai food and entertainment, but you're also raising money for something important,” Forrest said.
The event's lineup includes comedians led by veteran funnyman Dave Levinson.
There will also be food demonstrations from Bligh legends such as Pete Goffewood and Benny Masekwamen, family-friendly activities and vendors showcasing all things Bligh from spices to accessories.
“What better way to give back than to share a laugh, flip a steak, and enjoy the ultimate braai experience?” said Forrest.
