A fire that broke out at Trappy Scope in Kalk Bay on Monday is “almost extinguished”, the City of Cape Town has confirmed.
One house was completely destroyed by firefighters' efforts to extinguish the fire.
Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson Germaine Karels said air support would continue to provide necessary additional support to ground teams.
Firefighting efforts were still continuing as of 8:00 p.m.
South African National Parks said it received reports of the fire starting at 2:20 p.m. and spreading to St James and Boys Drive due to “extraordinarily hot winds”.
SANParks spokeswoman Lauren Clayton said fire brigade and air support remained at the scene by night to conduct clear-up operations.
“The region is still very unstable,” she said.
The City of Cape Town sent four helicopters and a reconnaissance plane to extinguish the fire.
Responding forces also blocked traffic on Boys Drive.
