what happened? Because the new film from the I Kissed a Girl star was supposed to deliver just what you'd expect.
Even Katy Perry's sexy cover photo for her new album 143 can't save what may be the worst music released this year. It's a collection of music, to be sure, but the vitality of Perry's debut had long since been lost in its repetitive, uninspiring bubblegum drone.
what happened? Because there is a new drop, kissed a girl The star should have lived up to expectations. Instead, it's hard to tell one track from another, and the entire album feels as if ChatGPT had something to do with its origins. It's about as creative as walking up to a girl in a pub and spouting the line: “Your father must have been a thief because he stole a star and put it in your eye.”
Perry's star fades with this album. And I don't know if there's a way back from here.
Perry's star disappears at 143
Strangely enough, the first single was woman's worldcombined with a sexy video, took seven people to write. Perry was one of them, and aside from the other female voice, all of the other authors on this track were…wait for it…men. It's a clubby piece that reconsiders feminist themes such as world domination and the future of women.
This is something Beyoncé previously shared with us on the equally boring “Girls Rule the World.” Perry came about a decade too late with this song and video, stuck in the '90s with mechanical horses and literal lyrics, but Perry said his interpretation of the lyrics was satirical.

As the world moves forward, furious sales are completely behind the times. Over the past decade and a half, with Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa, and even the Kardashians, the “Free the Nipple” movement has taken girl power to a whole other level. No one in this world should state the obvious. Suppose you no longer need to pre-explain your power as a woman. It just happened and it just is. Perry somehow missed this ship.
The balance of the album hasn't reached that point either. It's as if Katy is skating on thin ice between the repetitive pop beats and quickly constructed lyrics that at times begin to feel like repeats of her idols Lady Gaga and Gloria Gaynor. Perry targets all sorts of targets on this record, but it's all Salty Cracks at the end of the month.
repetitive pop beat
above crushPerry sings about whether it is or isn't because she blushes every time she's touched. It's words, it's prose over beats, and it all feels packaged and overproduced, but somehow we've heard it all before. another track, nirvanasounds like a Madonna album rejected by Mads' electronic phase. The later track, Artificial, starts like Nirvana, but ends with me turning it off.
Overall, the album feels like a single track that is too long. But it's not a montage of thoughts or expressions. Instead, it's a dance club for misfits. 143 was a complete disappointment for the artist and her creative partner Dr Luke. The pair produced worldwide hits such as; teenage dream and kissed a girl. It was pop but evergreen.
Of course, Dr. Luke has his own issues with his ongoing legal battle and sexual harassment accusations from pop star Kesha. But that's a story for another day…or was it just an uneasy knee-jerk as Perry was hoping for a hit? Although reteaming with him was a controversial decision, it didn't make much of a difference to the monotony of the album.
