Jarrod Bowen scored his first senior hat-trick, relieving pressure on West Ham manager David Moyes as West Ham secured a much-needed victory over Brentford in the Premier League.
The hosts had not won a game in 2024 until Monday night, but lost 6-0 to Arsenal in their last match at the London Stadium, with hundreds of home fans leaving at half-time.
But West Ham responded in style, taking a 2-0 lead within 10 minutes against the struggling Bees.
Bowen opened the scoring in the fifth minute with a shot that hit the post, but the England forward scored again two minutes later when he tucked in a pass from Vladimir Coufal.
Neal Maupay's scooped finish instantly halved the deficit, and Brentford waved off a penalty charge when Mohamed Kudus forced Sergio Reguilon into the box.
There was some tension as Brentford equalized, but Hammers fans were relieved when Bowen fired home his third goal midway through the second half.
Emerson capped off a perfect night for West Ham with a superb shot into the top corner of the goal. Ioan Wissa scored Brentford's second goal, but it wasn't enough to deny the hosts victory.
West Ham moved up to eighth in the Premier League, while Brentford remained in 16th, five points above the relegation zone.
Bowen gives Moyes a much-needed win
Moyes led West Ham to the Europa Conference League title last season and has consistently kept his team in the top half of the league, but he has been under pressure recently following a poor performance.
After losing 6-0 to Arsenal, they lost 2-0 to Nottingham Forest. As a result, some fans held up banners and called for him to leave.
Moyes therefore needed to protect his record at the club, but there is no doubt that he needed a good result and performance against Brentford to avoid further calls for him to leave.
The result could not have been better, and Bowen had to be grateful for that.
The former Hull City attacker has been increasingly used as a striker under Moyes this season and has responded with his best scoring form in the Premier League, with those three goals taking his tally to 14 in the Premier League this season.
More to come.
