Gayton McKenzie has responded to reports that he spent more than R800,000 on his trip to the 2024 Olympics.
The Minister for Sport, Arts and Culture, who is known for being outspoken on Twitter, slammed the report, detailing his travels.
“I left on the day the Olympics started. I went to a government meeting with ministers from other countries. I didn't attend the Olympics, just went to the opening match and went back to work. I could have stayed. But I wanted to know about my new portfolio. Stop lying to people.”
Gayton further shared photos as evidence and explained that he was not wasting taxpayers' money and was doing his job.
“I attended six meetings in Paris before the Olympics started, went to the Athletic Villa to greet the athletes, attended the opening ceremony and watched hockey, gymnastics and sevens matches, and opened the Ekaya village. , I watched the rest of the Olympic games on TV. What fun?'' he added.
