The Springboks, the reigning Rugby World Cup champions, have made the shrewd move of adding Jaco Peyper to their management team.

Peiper, a former international referee, has an important mission to improve communication and understanding between the Boxes, match officials and World Rugby.
Jaco Peiper and the Past: Mending Fences
Historically, there has been tension between Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus and World Rugby. However, the South African side have put a lot of effort into mending fences and showing on-field discipline since Erasmus was suspended in the past.

In his role as rugby manager, Erasmus understands the value of inside information. Before winning the World Cup, they tried to bring Nigel Owens into the team.

Despite Owens' absence, the Boxes gained valuable insight from Erasmus and his discussions.
Jaco Peiper's unique role
Before the last World Cup, Jaco Peiper assisted the team in an unofficial capacity while still being an active referee. He is now retired and serves as its advisor in perpetuity. This seems like a wise move for the defending champion.

Mr. Peiper's experience is a valuable asset. Having officiated 67 Test matches, he is well-respected and has strong relationships within World Rugby. This puts him in a unique position to bridge the communication gaps and concerns that South Africa has.

Mr Peiper's hiring signifies improved relations between South Africa and the sport's governing body.
This could lead to a smoother working relationship at the most important moments during major tournaments, such as the World Cup title defense in Australia.
