WISCO, China Unicom and ZTE named Best Mobile Innovation for Connected Economy at GLOMO Awards 2024.
ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), which has established itself as a leading global provider of ICT solutions, has partnered with Wuhan Iron and Steel Company (WISCO) and China Unicom to launch the joint project “5G Fully Connected Smart” announced. Since 2020, collaborative efforts with WISCO and its partners have led to the establishment of the “5G Fully Connected Smart Steel Factory” project. This project has now developed into the largest 5G private network in the global steel industry, achieving an incredible 5G coverage of 99% within the factory premises. Leveraging this robust 5G private network infrastructure, the project deployed 25 steel applications across six major scenarios. These applications span intelligent logistics, production management, digital equipment management, energy and environmental management, quality management, and safety management. To streamline operations, the mill has established a company-wide control center in addition to dedicated operation centers for pig iron, steel, CSP, and hot rolling. This integrated approach paves the way for a seamless, all-in-one-click steelmaking process.

5G private network has been applied to WISCO's main production areas. More than 100 overhead cranes completed unmanned reconstruction. Since the introduction of smart hot metal transportation, transportation efficiency has been continuously improved. In particular, the temperature drop of the molten iron during transport is less than 100 degrees, setting a new record for extreme efficiency, resulting in a reduction in carbon emissions of more than 750,000 tons per year.
