World Day of Prayer 2024: We all pray to the strength of our faith. It gives us peace, hope, and the resilience to carry on through good times and bad. Praying to the Almighty helps us to believe in ourselves and in the power of time, which will resolve everything well. It is believed that women have a strong sense of awareness of the needs of other women and children. The World Day of Prayer is observed as an invitation to Christian women to participate in prayer, both individually and in missionary auxiliaries and organizations. As you prepare to celebrate this special day of spirituality and faith, here are some things you should know about it.
date:
Every year, World Day of Prayer is observed on the first Friday of March. March starts this year on Friday, so the World Day of Prayer falls on March 1st.
history:
In 1887, Mary Ellen Fairchild James, wife of the president of the PCUSA National Mission Board, called for a day of prayer for home missions, thereby creating the first Women's World Day of Prayer in the United States. In 1920, the first Friday of Lent was designated as a day of united missionary prayer. The World Day of Prayer in 1924 was universally accepted and celebrated as worship was shared with other countries. In 1930, Korean-born Helen Kim became the first non-American woman to write the order of worship for the World Day of Prayer.
significance:
The best way to celebrate a special day is to join Christian women in a time of prayer and celebrate the day together. You can make the day even more special by observing it at church and donating to a missionary auxiliary or organization.
