Zanele Mbokazi’s legacy is being preserved and passed on even after her death.
At a press conference attended by her husband, Bishop Mpendulo Nkambule, and other board members, it was confirmed that the Crown Gospel Awards would continue.
“This will be the biggest awards ever,” said creative director Siyanda Mwandla.
The next 17th Crown Gospel Awards will be held in November.
“Zanele always emphasised that Crowns is bigger than her. It has become more than just an awards ceremony, it has become an institution. She was 100 per cent right. She is no longer with us but we are still going,” Mwandla added.
“It's a bittersweet moment to pick up the baton and carry on now that we've lost our founder. But the show must go on. It's awe-inspiring to look back at where we began. I've been involved since 2008 and we've grown,” he said.
Speaking about his late wife, Bishop Nkambure said: “It is an unfamiliar environment to be here in the absence of Zanele, but we are here to honour her achievements, keep her memory alive and celebrate her work,” he said.
“She was a phenomenal woman, larger than life. She dreamed big and made things possible. She created things where there was nothing. She had the ability to bring things into existence that didn't exist,” he said.
